SYLLABUS OUTLINE


The detailed Syllabus for each paper will be sent to the Participants along with the first batch of printed notes. However, to give a basic idea regarding each paper you are going to learn, here is a brief sketch about the topics involved for P.G.D.P.C./ M.S.:
 
P.G.D.P.C. / M.S. I Year
 
Paper 1 - Personality Development  

Objectives:
  1. To acquaint the Participants with different aspects of Development at different age levels.
  2. To acquaint the Participants with Psycho- Social issues to intervene effectively at different stages of Development.

The topics include:

Introduction - The Nature & Meaning of Development - Infancy - Babyhood - Childhood - Adolescence - Adulthood - Middle Age - Old Age.

 
Paper 2 - Psychology of Adjustment  

Objectives:
  1. To acquaint the Participants with different aspects of Adjustment in Life.
  2. To encourage the Participants to apply the material to his or her personal Development.

The topics include:

Adjustment & Growth - Motivation - Stress - Emotions - Self-Concept - Interpersonal Relationships - Freedom & Decision Making - Self-Directed Change.

 
Paper 3 - Psychopathology  

Objectives:
  1. To acquaint the Participants with minor & major Mental Disorders.
  2. To acquaint the Participants with the Dynamics & Prognosis of these Disorders.

The topics include:

Introduction to Psychopathology - Classification of Mental Disorders - Psychological factors & Physical Symptoms - Anxiety Disorders - Schizophrenic Disorders - Personality Disorders - Mood Disorders - Sexual Variations & Disorders - Substance-Related Disorders - Mental Retardation.

 
Paper 4- Techniques & Methods of Counselling  

Objectives:
  1. To acquaint the Participants with the Techniques & Methods of Counselling.
  2. To acquaint the Participants with the different types of Counselling .

The topics include:

Introduction to Counselling – Expectations & Goals - Communications - Counselling Relationship - Models of Counselling - Crisis & Developmental Counselling - Educational, Vocational, Developmental & Career Counselling - Group Counselling - Evaluation of Counselling.

 
Paper 5- Marriage & Family Counselling
 

Objectives:
  1. To acquaint the Participants with the different aspects of Marriage & Marital Counselling.
  2. To acquaint the Participants with the functions of Family & Family Counselling.

The topics include:

The marriage - Marital Adjustment & Growth - Divorce & Remarriage - Roles of Husband & Wife - Personality Types in Marriage - Family - Marriage Counselling.

 
Paper 6- Assessment & Treatment of Abnormal Behaviour  

( For P.G.D.P.C./ P.G.D.I.C. Participants only)

Objectives:

  1. To acquaint the Participants with the various Therapeutic Procedures in the treatment of Mental Disorders.
  2. To develop in them awareness about Therapeutic Procedures.

The topics include:

Introduction - Various Definitions - Transactional Analysis - Group & Family Therapies - Medical Treatment - Special Therapies - Behavior Therapy.

Paper 1- Principles & Techniques of Psychotherapy  

Objectives:
  1. To acquaint the Participants with the basic principles of Psychotherapy.
  2. To acquaint the Participants with different techniques of Psychotherapy.

The topics include:

Introduction to Psychotherapy - Psychotherapy& Related Techniques - Psychotherapy-the Art of Healing - Psychotherapeutic Devices-Being-the Art of Living - Therapeutic Skills - Effectiveness of Psychotherapy - Professional & Ethical Issues.

 
Paper 2- Clinical Assessment  

Objectives:
  1. To acquaint the Participants with the different aspects of Diagnosis.
  2. To acquaint the Participants with various techniques of Clinical Assessment.

The topics include:

Psychological tests - Selection & Administration of Tests - Test Construction - Intelligence Testing - Aptitude Testing - Interest Testing - Attitude Testing - Personality Testing.

 
Paper 3- Psychological Therapies  

Objectives:
  1. To acquaint the Participants with various therapeutic procedures in the treatment of mental disorders.
  2. To acquaint the Participants with various techniques of Clinical Assessment.

The topics include:

The Psychoanalytic Psychotherapy - Client Centered Therapy - Gestalt Psychotherapy - Existential Therapy - Cognitive Therapy - Transactional Analysis - Rational Emotive Therapy - Group Therapy & Family Therapy - Eastern Psychotherapies

 
Paper 4- Behavior Therapy  

Objectives:
  1. To acquaint the Participants with different Behaviour Therapies.
  2. To develop in them an awareness about the procedures of Behaviour Therapy Techniques.

The topics include:

Introduction - Systematic Desensitisation - Assertiveness Training - Modeling Procedures - Contingency management Procedures - Operant methods in Self Control - Extinction Procedures- Aversive Control.
